Pakistan: Teachers in Islamabad vow to continue protest against local govt ordinance

Islamabad, Dec 3 : Thousands of schoolteachers demonstrated outside the Parliament House on Thursday demanding withdrawal of the government decision of placing public sector schools under the Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI), Dawn reported on Friday.

The teachers along with the non-teaching staff from nearly 390 schools gathered in front of the National Press Club and then moved towards the Parliament House.

They were stopped by the police at D-Chowk but the protesters managed to reach Constitution Avenue before ending the protest peacefully.

The protesters said schools will remain closed and next week they would be holding a sit-in, in which parents and students as well will also be participating.
