Lucknow/Jhansi, 26 Dec : While the marathon competition organised by the Congress party as a part of ‘Ladki Hoon, Lad Sakti Hoon’ campaign was denied permission in Lucknow, nevertheless, a large number of girls participated in a mini marathon race competition ‘Run for Manikarnika’ in Jhansi with great zeal here on Sunday.

In Jhansi 6,800 girls registered and a large number turned up to participate in the competition, convener of the mini marathon and general secretary of state Congress committee Rahul Richhariya said.

He said, “All the Manikarnikas have come out on the streets and are saying ‘Ladki Hoon, Lad Sakti Hoon. A new history will be created in the country through this campaign. The girls are confident that they they too can do.”

A large number of girls started assembling at the starting point of marathon Muktakashi Manch to participate in the competition. Senior Congress leader and former Union Minister Pradeep Jain Aditya, convener of the marathon Rahul Richhariya and national secretary of NSUI Naved Khan flagged off the marathon.

During this former Union Minister Pradeep Jain Aditya said that the mini marathon is being organised to develop confidence among the women under the leadership of party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi. Manikarnika Marathon is being organised in a bid to bring girls into the mainstream. It’s a matter of pride that that such a large number of girls participated in the marathon.

In Lucknow, though the administration denied the permission for organising the marathon, a large number of girls assembled at the starting point 1090 crossing in Gomti Nagar. Congress leader Sadaf Jaafar said that besides locals a number of girls from other districts had also registered for the marathon.

The party had also announced prizes, including a two-wheeler and mobile phones to the winners of the marathon.

Before this a high tension drama was witnessed when protesting against refusal of the permission to organise the marathon a number of Congress leaders and workers staged at dharna and held protest at the Police Commissioner’s residence on Saturday night. Later, a few leaders were also detained by the police.

Congress’ national spokesman Supriya Shrinate had accused Uttar Pradesh government of adopting double standard after local administration denied them permission to organise ‘Ladki Hoon, Lad Sakti Hoon’ marathon race competition.

Talking to the reporters at UPCC headquarters here, Shrinate had said that imposing a ban of the marathon race competition to be organised in Lucknow reflected the anti-women attitude and double standards of the Bhartiya Janata Party.

She had said that all preparations have been made for the marathon, which was scheduled to start from 1090 crossing in Gomti Nagar area. The government however refused permission citing COVID protocol, whereas the BJP assembled a huge crowd at Ekana stadium on Saturday itself.
