PM Modi extends greetings on Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti

New Delhi, Jan 9 : Prime Minister Narender Modi and other Union leaders on Sunday greeted people on the birth anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh, 10th Sikh Guru.

In his message, the Prime Minister said the Guru’s life and message gives strength to millions of people.

“Greetings on the Parkash Purab of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji. His life and message give strength to millions of people. I will always cherish the fact that our Government got the opportunity to mark his 350th Parkash Utsav. Sharing some glimpses from my visit to Patna at that time,” PM tweeted.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah said: “Sarbansdani Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the tenth Sikh Guru and founder of Khalsa Panth, taught unity against unrighteousness and anti-national forces.

“His sacrifice, courage and teachings will always guide us for the welfare of the nation. Warm wishes on the occasion of Prakash Parv of Guru Gobind Singh Ji.”

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in message said the Guru’s efforts to serve the downtrodden are widely respected across the world.

“I bow to Sri Guru Gobind Singh ji on his 355th Prakash Purab. He was an epitome of courage, compassion and magnanimity. His efforts to serve the downtrodden are widely respected across the world. Our society will remain indebted to his teachings and sacrifices” he tweeted.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also greeted the countrymen on the birthday anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh.

The last of the ten Sikh gurus was born in 1666 in present day Patna.

He acceded to the throne at the age of nine and led the Sikh community till 1708, till his death.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) has announced a relaxation in the weekend curfew norms for the occasion of the birth anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh, to be observed on Sunday.

According an order issued by the authority, devotees will be permitted to visit and offer prayers at Gurudwaras on Sunday.
