Panaji, Dec 5 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate Mopa Greenfield International Airport in North Goa on December 11, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said on Monday.
Speaking to reporters at State Secretariat at Porvorim, near the city, Dr Sawant said the Prime Minister will also participate in the concluding function of World Ayurveda Congress to be held in the capital city of Panaji.
The Prime Minister will also virtually inaugurate All India Institute of Ayurveda in North Goa, National Institute of Unani Medicine, Gaziabad (UP) and National Institute of Homeopathy, New Delhi from Goa.
The Mopa International Airport will be the second facility in the state after Dabolim Airport which runs from a defence establishment in South Goa.
Mopa airport will be operated by GMR Goa International Airport Limited for a period of 40 years which can be extended to further 20 years, the Chief Minister said.
Initially the airport will have a capacity of handling 44 lakh passengers per annum and it will increase to 1 crore passengers per annum when the entire project would be completed, the Chief Minister said.
