Puducherry : Incessant rain continues to lash Puducherry

Puducherry, Nov 29 : Incessant heavy rain continues to lash Puducherry and its suburbs for the third successive day disrupting normal life in this Union Territory.

All low-lying areas were inundated and water entered into the houses at several places making the lives of the people miserable.

People resorted to agitations at several places including Thondamanatham where people resorted to a road blockade at Pathukannu demanding to pump out water from their houses and condemning BJP minister Sai Saravanakumar from the constituency who reportedly failed to turn up.

A farmer bought three of his cattle perished and resorted to a dharna near the legislative assembly alleging that the failure of the officials to provide injection to foot and mouth disease led to the death of his cattle.

Every effort by the administration to pump out water and bring in normalcy was hampered by the continuing rainfall. Meanwhile,the price of vegetables and all other essential commodities shot up in this erstwhile French colony.

The Puducherry administration has declared a holiday for today and tomorrow for all educational institutions in Puducherry and Karaikal districts in view of the heavy rain.

Puducherry received 152.06 MM rainfall in the last 24 hours ending at 8:30 AM on Monday.
