Chandigarh, Aug 12 : Harjinder Singh Dhindsa, the personal aide of Punjab Congress MP Ravneet Singh Bittu, sustained severe injuries in an attack by unknown assailants near Ayali Chowk in Ludhiana on Friday.

Dhindsa was rushed to the hospital where his condition is stated to be stable. Hospital sources said, Dhindsa sustained multiple injuries and has been kept in the ICU.

Police said Dhindsa was on his way to his Ludhiana office when about 15 people riding motorcycles attacked him with sharp edged weapons near Ayali chowk and fled the scene after the incident.

Police have launched an investigation into the matter. Police have accessed CCTV footage of the area, where the attack took place.

Earlier in June, Bittu received a threatening call saying he will meet the same fate as Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Walla, who was shot dead in broad daylight on May 29 in Punjab.

The caller had threatened to kill Bittu over his remarks on slain militant leader Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale. Bittu is the grandson of former Punjab chief minister Beant Singh who was assassinated in 1995.
