Ranchi Archdiocese pays homage to Fr Stan Swamy, offers food to poor

Ranchi: Archbishop of Ranchi Archdiocese Felix Toppo SJ presided over a Requiem Mass at St. Mary’s Cathedral here on Saturday to pay homage to social activist Fr. Stan Swamy, who died in a Mumbai prison on 5th July 2021.

At the mass held here, which was broadcast online, Bishop Theodore Mascarenhas, Auxiliary Bishop of Ranchi, Bishop Vincent Simdega, the three Jesuit Provincials of the Central India provinces and representative Jesuit Priests performed the holy mass to pray for eternal peace to the departed soul.
In keeping with prevalent Covid restrictions, some youths and sisters representing different religious congregations joined the mass.

Fr. Jerry Kuttina SJ, Provincial of Jamshedpur, introduced Fr Stan as a man, who lived for the tribals, fought their battles and died for them. Fr Jerry Kuttina said that Fr Stan, who belonged to Jamshedpur provincial, and his battles would continue to encourage them to serve the humanity in distress. Fr Jerry and Fr Ajit Xess SJ read the Gospel of the day and Fr Santosh Minj SJ, the Provincial of Hazaribagh gave a vote of thanks.
