Idukki (Kerala), Aug 6 : A red alert has been issued for Idukki dam as incessant rains continued to lash this hilly district of Kerala on Saturday.
The authorities alerted people living on the banks of Periyar river asking them to be cautious against the rising water level, informed sources said.
Due to heavy rains in the catchment areas, the spillway shutters of the Idukki dam are expected to be raised any time as the water level touches 2,382.52 feet against its capacity of 2,403 feet.
In October 2021, the Idukki dam was opened for the first time after the 2018 floods in Kerala.
