CLEVELAND (Oh), Aug 28 : Sania Mirza of India pairing with Christina Mchale of US set up title clash with top seeded Japanese duo of Shuko Aoyama and Ena Shibahara in the $ 235,238 ATP Challenge Tour Cleveland Open here on Saturday.
Sania Mirza and Christina Mchale of US defeated Ulrikke Eikeri of Norway and Catherina Harrisson of US in the women’s doubles semi-final by 7-6 (5), 6-2 in the first doubles semi-final. Later in the second doubles semi-final Shuko-Ena got the better of the American pair of Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Shelby Rogers 7-6 (4), 1-6, 10-7 in one hour and 51 minutes.
After breaking their rival pair in the sixth game to gain a 4-2 lead , Sania-Christina retained their serve game in the seventh game to increase their lead to 5-2. However, Eikeri-Cathirina won the next two games, including breaking their rivals to make it 4-5 and went on to level the score 5-5 by retaining their service game in the 10th.
Sania-Michale won the 11th game to lead 6-5. Eikeri-Cathirina won the 12th game on their serve to be at level 6-6. Sania-Michale managed to win the first set by winning the tie-breaker at 7-5. They won the set 7-6 (5 )in 50 minutes.
After missing to break their opponents who trailed 30-40, Sania-Michale managed to win the first game of the second set to take 1-0 lead. Maintaining their pressure Sania-Michale made it 2-0 by winning the second game at love on their serve. With another break in their fifth game, Sania-Michale took a commanding 4-1 lead. In the seventh game Eikeri-Harrisson saved a match point as they trailed 30-40 but bounced back to win their server game to reduce the gap to 2-5.
Sania-Mchale wrapped up the match by winning their eighth game, set 6-2. and match in one hour and 23 minutes. Sania-Mchale converted four out of 10 breakpoints. Eikeri-Harrisson converted both their breakpoints.
By entering the doubles final, Sania-Mchale have ensured cash earning of $16398 and 180 ATP points.
