Sensex at new peak at 83,773.61

Mumbai, Sep 19 : The equity market was at a new peak on Thursday with BSE Sensex advancing 800 pts at 83,773.61 in opening trade, following a US Federal decision to cut the 50 bps rate for the first time in four years.
The Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) jumped 145.35 pts to 25,522.90.
Sliding over 100 pts on Wednesday, the stock market was in a jubilant mood as the Sensex registered intra and high and low at 83,773 and 82,332.08 pts, respectively.
Stocks rallied were consumer discretionary goods and services, financial services, utilities, auto, and Bankex.
The NSE registered days high and low at 25,611.95 and 24,481.70 pts respectively.
The midcap eased 0.03 pc while the small cap rose by 0.36 pc.
In 30 scrips, 26 advanced while 4 declined.
The gainers were NTPC by 3.09 pc to Rs 426.65, Bharti Airtel by 1.53 pc to Rs 1678, Axis Bank by 1.59 pc to Rs 1258.05, Titan by 1.56 pc to Rs 3781.70, and ITC by 1.26 pc to Rs 513.45.
The losers were HCL Technology by 0.58 pc to Rs 1745.45, Adani Ports by 0.17 pc to Rs 1426.10, and Bajaj Finserv by 0.17 pc to Rs 1884.25.
