Sensex down 168.08 pts

Mumbai, Sep 7 : The BSE Sensex on Wednesday lost further by 168.08 points to settle at 59,028.91 following selling in Utilities, Auto, Bankex and Power stocks.

The Nifty of National Stock Exchange (NSE) too eased 31.20 points at 17,624.40.

The Sensex dropped 407 points at 58,789 in opening trade. It was tumbled down 1074 points at 58,722.89, days low, before closing at 59,028.91, declining by 168.08 points from its previous close.

The Nifty recorded days high and low at 17,650.75 and 17,484.30 points respectively.

In scrips, IndusInd Bank was a major loser, down 1.64 per cent to Rs 1090.40 followed by Bharti Airtel by 1.37 per cent to Rs 750.85, M& M by 1.34 per cent to Rs 1289, Maruti Suzuki by 1.17 per cent to Rs 8779.65 and SBI by 0.94 per cent to Rs 532.90.

The gainers were Ultracemco by 4.37 per cent to Rs 6783.75, Wipro by 0.74 per cent to Rs 407.55, Sun Pharma by 0.71 per cent to Rs 893.85 and Bajaj finance by 0.71 per cent to Rs 7172.90.

The Mid Cap rose by 0.46 pc and Small Cap by 0.73 per cent.

In 30 scrips, 12 advanced while 18 declined.

The Asian Market was too weak as Australia fell by 1.37 per cent followed by Hong Kong by 0.94 per cent, Japan by 0.71 per cent and Taiwan by 1.82 per cent.
