Sensex down 497.73 pts

Mumbai, July 26 : The BSE Sensex on Tuesday lost 497.73 pts to close at 55,268.49 as selling was seen in IT, FMCG and Technology stocks.
The Nifty of National Stock Exchange (NSE) too fell 147.15 pts to close at 16,483.85.
The Sensex opened higher by 68 pts at 55,834. Later, it dropped nearly 563 pts to reach 55,203.43, the day’s low, before closing at 55,268.49, sliding 497.73 pts from its previous close.
The Sensex registered the day’s high and low at 55,834.38 and 55,203.43 pts respectively.
The Nifty recorded the day’s high and low at 16,636.10 and 16,463.30 respectively.
The sectoral indices like IT, FMCG, Capital Goods and Technology stocks dragged the market further.
In scrips, Infosys was a major loser, 3.45 pc to Rs 1451 followed by were Hind Unilever by 2.98 pc to Rs 2543, Axis Bank by 2.93 pc to Rs 706.90, Dr Reddy’s Lab by 2.75 pc to Rs 4213 and Kotak Bank by 2.28 pc to Rs 1753.80.
The gainers were Bajaj Finserv by 5.47 pc to Rs 13,300, Powergrid by 0.67 pc to Rs 209.35, Bharti Airtel by 0.63 pc to Rs 682.45 and Bajaj Finance by 0.46 pc to Rs 6257.20.
The Mid Cap fell by 1.21 pc and Small Cap by 1.20 pc.
In 30 scrips, 9 advanced while 21 declined.
