Sensex jumps over 300 points

Mumbai, Oct 8 : Snapping a losing streak of the last six sessions, the BSE Sensex on Tuesday recovered 392 points at 81,442 in the opening trade as buying was seen across the board.

The Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) rose 119.70 pts to 24,915.45. The Sensex registered intra and high and low at 81,463 and 80,813.07 points, respectively.

The NSE registered days high and low at 24,923.50 and 24,756.80 points, respectively. The midcap rose 1.01 pc and the small cap by 1.30 pc. In 30 scrips, 17 advanced while 13 declined.

The gainers were Adani Ports by 2.65 pc to Rs 1390.05, NTPC by 1.85 pc to Rs 422.80, M&M by 1.66 pc to Rs 3112.05, SBI by 1.63 pc to Rs 782.35, and HDFC Bank by 1.52 pc to Rs 1644.30.

The losers were Tata Steel by 2.50 pc to Rs 160.20, JSW Steel by 2.14 pc to Rs 997.10, Tata Motors by 1.55 pc to Rs 913.70, and TCS by 1.12 pc to Rs 4224.25.
