Mumbai, Oct 12 : The BSE Sensex on Wednesday rose 165 points to open at 57,312.49 on the strength of Utilities, Bankex and Capital Goods stocks.
The Nifty too gained 52.30 points at 17,035.85.
The sensitive index registered an intra-day high and low at 57,458.53 and 57,144.44 points, respectively.
The Nifty recorded intra-day high and low at 17,071.64 and 16,976.75 points, respectively.
The Mid Cap rose by 0.93 per cent while Small Cap fell by 0.06per cent.
In 30 scrips, 24 advanced while six declined.
The gainers were Powergrid by 3.07 per cent to Rs 214.70; HCL Technology by 2.07 per cent to Rs 958; M&M by 1.34 per cent to Rs 1,245.10; Axis Bank by 1.03 per cent to Rs 793.80 and NTPC by 0.93 per cent to Rs 162.50.
The losers were Asian Paints by 2.60 per cent to Rs 3,214.35; Dr Reddy’s Lab by 0.98 per cent to Rs 424.64; Bharti Airtel by 0.83 per cent to Rs 773.60 and ICICI Bank by 0.52 per cent to Rs 865.
