New Delhi, Aug 31 : Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia has said his government will support E-sports events and also encourage all initiatives to help the gaming sector grow.
“E-sports now is growing very fast. I am convinced that this deserves all the support and recognition. I promise that the Delhi government will encourage this sector in every possible manner,” he said while attending a gaming event on Monday night.
Sisodia was invited as a chief guest to the inaugural ceremony of the E-sports Premier League (ESPL) here.
A team from Maharashtra emerged as champions in the inaugural edition of the gaming event, the organiser said.
“Mumbai Marshals has emerged as a winner at the country’s first-ever franchise-based E-sports league” the statement by ESPL read.
The franchise-based league system boasted a 25,00,000 prize pool and the lion’s share was bagged by the Mumbai Marshals.
Sisodia handed over the accolades and cash rewards to the winners and runner-ups in a city hotel.
According to the ESPL, the tournament attracted over 100 Million views over all of their videos making it one of the most successful esports events in India. With over a million registrations, only 8 teams were able to make it to the final stage of the league, it added.
