RANCHI: Priests and sisters of Ranchi Archdiocese celebrated the installation of Felix Toppo as the Archbishop at a simple function held at the Archbishop’s House located at Purulia road here on Thursday.
Felix Toppo was elevated as the Archbishop of Ranchi Archdiocese after Telesphore P Toppo relinquished the post on August 6, 2018. The Ranchi Archdiocese is one of the prominent church institutions, as its cardinal, Telesphore P Toppo, used to participate in the Papal conclave to elect the Bishop of Rome.
Sisters and priests led by House Minister Amrita Kujur presented song in praise of the Archbishop and wished him success in all his ventures in the service of humanity. House receptionist Ms Monika congratulated Rev Felix Toppo and offered good wishes on behalf of other house staff.
Archbishop Felix Toppo thanked all for their wishes. “I have done very little after getting the new responsibility. A lot needs to be done in coming years. Pray for me that I could serve the humanity with utmost dedication and honesty,” said an overwhelmed Archbishop.
His Grace, Most Rev Felix Toppo, SJ, was born on 21st November, 1947, in Tongo, Diocese of Gumla. He entered the Society of Jesus in 1968 and was ordained Priest on 14th April, 1982. He obtained a Masters in Psychology from the Gregorian University, Rome, in 1990. After serving the Jesuit Congregation in various capacities, as Director of Pre-Novices, Novice Master and Superior, he was elected as the Bishop of Jamshedpur on 18th July, 1997 and was consecrated on 27th September, 1997.
As Bishop, he was the Chairman of the CBCI Office for Clergy and Religious for four years, and of the National Vocation Service Centre, Pune, for four years. At present he is the Governing Body Chairman of the CBCI Society for Medical Education, North India and Chairman of the JHAAN Regional Bishops’ Council and of two Regional Commissions. He is also the Vice-Chancellor of St. Albert’s College, Ranchi.
