Aurangabad/Mumbai, Jul 23 : Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday assured the Maharashtra State Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar during their telephonic conversation that immediate assistance has been provided to the Army in the areas affected by heavy rains and landslides in the state .
Meanwhile, at least 36 dead bodies have been removed from under the mound in Talai village in Mahad taluka of Raigad district and 30 others are said to be trapped.
Rescue operation was on at a war footing ,sources said.
Due to devastated rains, floods, landslides have created an emergency like situation in Raigad, Ratnagiri, Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur and many other districts in the state.
Mr Pawar apprised the current situation of Maharashtra to the Defence minister Rajnath Singh.
The Defense Minister has assured Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar that immediate assistance has been provided to the Army in the areas affected by heavy rains and landslides.
The state government has appointed Asim Gupta, secretary, relief and rehabilitation department, as the nodal officer to coordinate with the defence ministry on rescue and relief work in the flood-hit areas.
Chief Secretary of State Sitaram Kunte himself is looking after the defence and help.
Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray is constantly reviewing the relief and rescue work in the flood-hit areas and necessary instructions are being given immediately, he informed.
Mr Pawar has instructed the ministers as well as the people’s representatives to provide necessary assistance to the affected citizens immediately and not to leave the district till the situation is restored, Mr Pawar added.
