SP could announce the first list of its candidates for UP polls next month

Lucknow, Oct 28 : Samajwadi Party, has started processing its potential candidates for the 2022 assembly polls and the first list could be announced by the end of the next month, the party said in a statement.

The statement further said that the list of candidates will only be announced once the pre poll alliance strategy has been completed.

The party has received around 2,000 applications so far for the party ticket except for the sitting ones.

At present, the top 10 list of contenders in each assembly seats is being prepared on the basis of survey and feedback received from various levels and caste equations.

In the first phase, names of candidates will be announced for about 100 seats, including 30 sitting MLAs.

SP chief spokesperson Rajendra Choudhury said here on Wednesday that the party was processing the names of the candidates and it will be announced much before the elections.

At present, there are 48 MLAs of SP in the state, but after one MLA switched to the BJP, only 47 are left.

Except for these seats, applications have been sought from those contesting on all other seats.

Sources here said more than 30 people have applied in most assembly seats. In 15 seats of Purvanchal, 60 to 80 applications have been received. Apart from these, those joining the party are also applying.

So far around 2000 applications have been received. In this, about 600 applications are from women.

Party high command has set standards to make the top 10 list on the basis of the list of applicants by the assembly constituency. Where there are less contenders, the list of top three will be made. In this, preference will be given to those having a clean image, excellent academic and political career in the field.

Based on these parameters, the party high command will brainstorm on the names of the candidates. After that the final list will be prepared. This work will be likely completed by November end.

Sources said there is also a proposal to deny tickets to some sitting members who are in touch with other political parties while seats could also be changed of some sitting members.
