Chennai, Sep 7 : In what could be seen as a New year gift, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Tuesday announced hike in Dearness Allowance (DA) for all government employees and pensioners with effect from January one next year.
Making a Statement Under Rule 110 in the State Assembly, he said despite the serious financial crunch faced by the government, the DA hike had been announced and it would benefit more than 16 lakh employees and pensioners.
Though the government had announced in the budget the the DA would be hiked from April next year, the government decided to advance the hike by three months from January itself based on the requests made to the state government by various government employees and teachers associations.
He said the government would incur an expenditure of Rs 1,620 crore in view of advanced DA hike for three months from January to March and Rs 6,480 crore per annum.
Making a slew of announcements, Mr Stalin also said that the retirement age of cooks and cooking assistants working in Nutritious Noon Meal centres in the State from 58 years to 60. This would benefit 29,137 cooks and 24,576 assistant cooks, he added.
