Lucknow, Jan 14 : Suspended Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MLA Ramveer Upadhyaya resigned from the primary membership of the party on Friday.

In his resignation letter sent to BSP chief Mayawati, Upadhyaya has claimed that the party has deviated from its principles.

Upadhyaya said that he had been an active member of BSP for 25 years and had been continuously warning about its depleting mass base. But the party leadership did not pay heed, he added.

Upadhyay said: “No review was done even after the party failed to win seats as expected, which I demanded from time to time. I informed you in the 2019 Lok Sabha election that we are not getting seats as expected… In this election as well, the cadre vote is distancing itself from us.”

He said: “Denying the reality, you (Mayawati) suspended me from the party. My and my supporters’ sentiments got hurt due to this. Today, the BSP has deviated from the principles and ideals laid down by Kanshi Ram. For this reason I am resigning from the membership of the BSP.”

Upadhyaya is an MLA from Sadabad seat in Hathras district. He had been the Energy, Medical Education and Transport Minister during Mayawati regime. He was considered a prominent Bhramin face of the BSP.
