Ten killed, 57 injured as bus falls into gorge on Jammu outskirts

Jammu, May 30 : At least ten people were killed, and 57 others suffered injuries, four critically when a Katra bound bus met with an accident and fell into a gorge on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway near Jhajjar Kotli on Jammu outskirts.
Police said that the bus on its way to Katra this morning skidded off a bridge and fell into a gorge near the Jajjar Kotli area.
Police, SDRF teams along with locals immediately swung into action and started the rescue operation.
“Ten people have died in the accident and 57 suffered injuries,” they said adding that four seriously injured were rushed to the Government Medical College and Hospital Jammu while others are admitted to Primary Health Centre Dansal.
Police have registered a case and started an investigation to ascertain the cause of accident.
Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh tweeted, “Just now spoke to DC Jammu Avny Lavasa after receiving the news of road accident of a bus enroute to Katra. All the injured shifted to GMC Jammu. Every possible help being provided. I am in constant touch.”
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha tweeted, “extremely pained by the loss of lives in a tragic bus accident in Jhajjar Kotli, Jammu. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and prayers for speedy recovery of the injured. Directed district administration to provide all possible assistance and treatment to the injured.”
