Dhaka, Mar 31 : Foreign Minister Dr A K Abdul Momen on Wednesday said The 10th D-8 Summit will be held from April 5 to 6 virtually in Bangladesh.
The Foreign Minister said the Prime Minister is expected to preside over the 10th D-8 Summit and address on behalf of Bangladesh. The heads of state and government of other countries will also address the D-8 conference through virtual channels. As the host country of this conference, Bangladesh will be the chair of D-8 for the next two years. At this year’s summit, the current D-8 chair will be handed over to Turkey and Bangladesh.
Dr Momen said that Bangladesh is celebrating the golden jubilee of independence and the year of Mujib at the same time. If Bangladesh holds the presidency for the next two years before the 10th D-8 Summit is held in Dhaka on this historic occasion, it will open new doors for the development of Bangladesh in the international arena and create opportunities for the expansion of multilateral diplomatic cooperation.
He said the forthcoming 10th Summit will focus on trade, agriculture and food security, industrial cooperation and international, economic and trade policy issues, including enhancing inter-D-8 cooperation in six areas: small and medium enterprises, transport, energy and mineral resources and tourism.
The D-8 member states are Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan and Turkey. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina attended the first D-8 summit held in 1996. Bangladesh successfully hosted the second D-8 Summit in Dhaka in 1999.
