Three pilgrims killed, several injured in bus accident

Hazaribagh, Sep 12 : Three people lost their lives while more than two dozen people sustained injuries as a bus full of pilgrims met with an accident under Gorhar Police Station area of Hazaribagh district of Jharkhand on Monday.

Police said that the occupants of the bus were pilgrims who were going to Gaya from East Medinipur district of West Bengal.

Police said that the bus hit another unidentified vehicle from behind causing the incident.

The deceased have been identified as bus driver Asadul Mullah (52) of Nischitpur village of East Burdhaman while co-driver Noor Jamal (46) of Rasulpur village of Bankura district and Gurupado Mandal (55) a resident of Vrindavan Bupati Nagar of East Medinipur.

Among the travellers, 30 others have also sustained grave injuries out of which the condition of eight pilgrims was stated to be critical and they have been sent to Sadar Hospital Hazaribagh for better treatment.

The occupants of the bus said that they were going to Gaya to perform Pinddaan from Mednipur when near Gorhar bridge the driver applied brakes suddenly due to a ditch as a result of which it ended up hitting another vehicle from behind.

All the bodies have been sent for postmortem to Sadar Hospital Hazaribagh.
