TMC intensifies efforts to strengthen base in Tripura

Agartala, Sep 3 : Trinamool Congress have intensified its effort to poach on Congress and BJP to strengthen the base in Tripura, newly appointed TMC leader Susmita Dev, the daughter of former union minister and Congress stalwart Late Santosh Mohan Deb told media today after holding workers meet.

She arrived here on a fortnight-long visit to the state to shape up the organisation here and to constitute the Tripura state committee of Trinamool Congress. After arrival, she had personally spoken to several BJP MLAs, dissident leaders of the ruling party and congress leaders about her father’s contact who had been elected twice in the 90s and made central minister from the state.

Susmita Dev issued a clarion call to all BJP, CPI-M and Congress workers and supporters to join Trinamool so that the fight against the ‘anti-people activities of BJP government’ can be intensified before the 2023 assembly poll. She had held a meeting with BJP legislator Sudip Roybarman and discussed the present political situation of the state.

Dev alleged Congress high command has always neglected Tripura, using it as a bargaining counter to befriend CPI-M at the national level, which had become the main turning point for BJP to win the elections in 2018. She added, “Biplab Kumar Deb must understand the people had voted against CPI-M, not to BJP in the last assembly election and now people of Tripura have decided to oust this government, as it cheated the people.”

Criticising the continuous attacks on Trinamool congress and other opposition parties during three and half year rule of BJP-IPFT government here Dev said TMC doesn’t believe in violence but BJP has been doing it for long here and the state government is playing a mute role that indirectly encouraged the miscreants.

“Unless BJP leaders don’t control their unruly cadres, TMC has to react,” Dev said.

Taking a dig at Congress leadership Susmita alleged in 1993 central leadership of Congress had resorted to a novel method of declaring president’s rule in Tripura through the intervention of the election commission and since then in all elections, the Congress high command has indirectly helped the CPI-M to remain in power.

She asserted that congress workers have no future in the party and they should all join the Trinamool that will put up a strong fight against the BJP and unseat it democratically in the next assembly elections in 2023. Dev predicted that BJP has no chance to come back again in Tripura in the next election, as the people of the state have experienced its governance and seen how they cheated the voters.

“The people of Tripura have seen communists for 25 years after congress followed by BJP. And, all those have done nothing for the development of the state. We have full trust in the voters that they will certainly go for TMC in the next election, as they are seeing Mamata Banerjee rule in West Bengal since 2011,” Dev observed.
