Agartala, Dec 18 : In a special session on Friday, Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (ADC) passed a resolution to raise it’s own armed police force for maintaining law and order in the sixth scheduled area.

This way the Tripura ADC has become the front runner in the creation of its own police force in the Northeast region.

The Deputy Chief Executive Member of ADC Animesh Debbarma said along with a resolution to raise the police force, two other resolutions and four bills were passed after a detailed discussion where opposition members had also taken part.

The house passed TTAADC police service Bill 2021, Introduction of the TTAADC (Constitution, Election & Conduct of Business) (25th Amendment) Bill 2021, Introduction of the TTAADC Village Committee (Conduct of Election) (4th Amendment) Bill 2021, Introduction of the Trade (Licence and Control) (1st Amendment) Bill 2021, Introduction & Discussion of TTAADC Civil services 2007 Withdrawal Bill.

A private member resolution has also been passed to withdraw the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council Land (Allotment & Use Act, 2007), which Debbarma termed as a progressive move of the present council for holistic development and a step forward empowerment of ADC.

Taking part in the discussion, Chairman of ruling party of TIPRA Motha and royal scion Pradyot Kishore Debbarman stressed on attaining self-sufficiency in terms of administration and economic development and said, “ADC needs to have its own police in the changing situation to deal with a certain amount of law order situation.”

He pointed out that a bill was passed in 1994 by the then ADC to raise a separate unarmed police force and it had got the ascent from the governor three years later. The ADC was asked to frame necessary rules for raising the police force but it could not move ahead with the same. The present administration will now do the remaining task, Debbarman added.
