UP: Passengers have a narrow escape as bus catches fire

Meerut (UP), Oct 24 : Fifty five passengers had a narrow escape when a bus carrying a marriage party caught fire in Kithore town of the district here in Uttar Pradesh, police sources said here on Monday.

Police sources said that a marriage party of 55, including women and children, from Kayastha Bada village in Kithore area had gone to Dulhera village in Muzaffarnagar on Sunday morning. “The incident occurred late on Sunday night when the bus caught fire due to a short circuit,” they said.

Police sources said that the driver and conductor of the bus escaped after the vehicle caught fire. “Some passengers sustained injuries as they jumped out of the moving bus in a bid to save life. “Local residents somehow rescued other passengers after hearing their cries,” they said.
