Lucknow, Dec 2 : Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday alleged that previous governments in the state used to provide scholarships to the talented students only after ascertaining their own political gains.
“Previous governments used to discriminate and in 2016-17, only the scholarship of SC/ST students were stopped,” he said without taking any names.
CM was speaking after online transferring an amount of Rs 458.66 crore for scholarships to 12.17 lakh meritorious students of the state at a function organised in his official residence here on Thursday.
Yogi Adityanath also interacted with some beneficiary students on the occassion.
The Chief Minister said that in the last four years, BJP government has worked hard to add more than 40 lakh students for scholarships to the number of children who were getting scholarship earlier.
Yogi Adityanath said that it is well known that the top priority of his government is to take the schemes of the government to the last person.
“The government is making all efforts on its part to implement it, but awareness is also important in this. This program is a part of that awareness. In the last four and a half years, our government has done the work of connecting more than 40 lakh children with this scheme, out of the number of students who were getting scholarship in the previous government. I am happy that an amount of Rs 458.66 crore is being made available to 12,17,631 students as scholarship/fee reimbursement today. Scholarship helps a lot to the students to study further ahead. It is a matter of happiness for the government too,” he said.
He said that on October 2 last, state government had sent scholarship installments to about 57 lakh students, but due to the Corona epidemic, a large number of schools/colleges could not start.
“Due to late admission of students the scholarship is being sent in different installments. I extend my heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to all the young friends of the state who are being provided scholarship today,” he said while adding that the remaining students would get their scholarship by the end of December.
In the course of interaction with the beneficiaries, he asked Pranav of Ghazipur and Atul Singh of Maharajganj, students of Government Polytechnic College in Firozabad, how do they use the scholarship money. The students replied that with this money they deposit college fees and buy course materials.
Every year, the state government provides benefits of post tenth scholarship, fee reimbursement and pre tenth scholarship scheme to the students of more than 56 lakh poor families.
Every year the scholarship distribution program is held on October 2 and January 26. Since next year assembly elections are to be held in the state, therefore the government is trying to give away scholarships to all the students in the state by December.
