Denver (US) , Dec 28 : A gunman in the Denver area of Colorado killed four people and wounded at least three others, including a police officer, during a series of shootings, police said.

The shooting spree ended late Monday as the suspect was brought down during a shootout with the city police force.

The authorities have not yet identified the shooter, as per US media reports. They are trying to establish a motive.

Following the murderous spree that occurred across several locations in and near the Colorado capital, Paul M. Pazen, the city police chief told the media: “This is the holiday season. To have this type of spree take place is not normal for our community.”

The shootings started shortly after 5 pm in central Denver, where two women were killed and a man was injured, Chief Pazen said.

The string of shootings across the Denver metro is one of the latest among over 675 mass shootings in the US seen so far this year, according to Gun Violence Archive.

“There are four significant locations where gunfire took place in the city and county of Denver,” Pazen said.

A man then was killed at a second location. And at a third site, a gun was fired, with no injuries reported.
