Biden unlikely to broker peace in Ukraine before leaving office: Sachs

Insight Online News

Washington, Sep 4 : US President Joe Biden is not expected to make any diplomatic push to broker peace in Ukraine before the end of his term in office, world-renowned economist and UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network President Jeffrey Sachs told Sputnik .

“I doubt that Biden will make any diplomatic moves,” Sachs said when asked whether Biden would try to broker a peace settlement in Ukraine before leaving the White House.

Sachs pointed out that Biden may likely avoid making any diplomatic efforts for peace in Ukraine because it could be considered a political risk amid the upcoming presidential election in November.

Moreover, Sachs said Biden may not be capable at this stage of “nitty-gritty” leadership.

Earlier on Monday, UK media reported that Biden will meet with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the margins of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly next week.

The summit is expected to be Zelenskyy’s last chance to convince Biden to reconsider his opposition to Ukraine using US-supplied weapons to strike deep into Russia, according to the report.
