Power supply to public institutions must not be interrupted for overdue electricity bills: Pawar

Mumbai, Mar 23 : Opposition leader in state assembly Ajit Pawar on Thursday demanded in the House that the power supply to public institutions including primary schools should not be interrupted for overdue electricity bills, the state government should take an urgent strategic decision to find a permanent solution to this.

Public facilities like primary schools, gram panchayat offices, primary health centers, upazilla hospitals, district hospitals, rural water supply schemes are important in the daily life of common people, he said.

Therefore, electricity supply to such public places should not be interrupted for outstanding electricity bills, he added.

As power cuts to these public goods are frequent occurrences for electricity bills, the state government has demanded an urgent policy decision in this regard, he said.

Incidents of disconnection of electricity supply to primary schools, gram panchayat offices, primary health centers, upazila hospitals, district hospitals, rural water supply schemes for overdue electricity bills are happening in the state. All these matters are public and are related to the daily life of the common people of the state. Citizens have to face major problems due to interruption of power supply to public utilities,he added.
