Jharkhand rail accident : Two seriously injured as 18 coaches of Howrah-Mumbai Mail derails

Ranchi, July 30 : Several coaches of the Howrah-Mumbai Mail going from Howrah to Mumbai derailed near the Barabamboo station of the Chakradharpur Railway Division of South Eastern Railway in Jharkhand early Tuesday, in which seven people were injured.

South Eastern Railway CPRO Om Prakash Charan told UNI here that 18 coaches of the Howrah Mumbai Mail derailed in this accident, including 16 passenger coaches, one pantry coach, and one power car.

He said that seven people were injured in this accident, of whom two were seriously injured.

The injured were given first aid by the Railways’ medical team, officials said, adding that they have now been taken to Chakradharpur for better treatment.

The exact reason for the derailment is being ascertained, they said.
Railway sources said that an NDRF team has been sent from Patna for relief and rescue.

Sources said that a goods train had derailed earlier between Rajkharsawan West Outer and Barabamboo, due to which the wagons were on the track when the Howrah-Mumbai Mail was coming from the other track, and its coaches also derailed after colliding with those wagons.

The passengers of the train involved in this accident have been sent to another nearby railway station through buses.

The Howrah-Kantabaji Express 22861, Kharagpur-Dhanbad Express 08015/18019 and Howrah Barbil Express 12021/12022 Express running on this route have been cancelled due to delays, and some trains were stopped midway.
