Sensex drops over 500 points

Mumbai, Apr 19 : The equity market continued to fall for the fifth consecutive session on Friday as BSE Sensex crashed 539 points to open below 72K at 71,949.65 amid heightened geographical tension, triggering a massive selloff of global equities.

Even a sudden rise in oil prices of more than two percent also impacted the same.

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) slipped 123.65 points to 21,872.20.

The NSE registered days high and low at 21,902.80 and 21,777.65 points, respectively.

The Sensex registered intraday highs and lows at 72216.97 and 71816.46 points, respectively.

The mid cap fell by 1.03 pc and the small cap by 0.74 pc.
In 30 scrips, 6 advanced while 24 declined.

The losers were Axis Bank by 1.96 pc to Rs 1004.10, Infosys by 1.58 pc to Rs 1398.05, Tata Motors by 1.45 pc to Rs 957.30, IndusInd Bank by 1.56 pc to Rs 1451, and L&T by 1.42 pc to Rs 3500.63.

The gainers were ITC by 1.03 pc to Rs 423.25, HDFC bank by 0.56 pc to Rs 1503, Hind Unilever by 0.37 pc to Rs 2223.25 and ICICI bank by 0.17 pc to Rs 1057.20.
