6 dead, 7 rescued after major fire breaks out in Secunderabad’s swapnalok complex

Hyderabad, Mar 17 : As many as six people, including four girls died and seven rescued after a major fire broke out in a multi-storey commercial Swapnalok complex in Secunderabad on Thursday night.

Police said on Friday that the deceased, all below 25 years of age, were inside the complex when the fire broke out.

They were brought out from the complex by the fire service personnel with the help of huge cranes and rushed to Gandhi hospital and Apollo Hospital in an unconscious state where they declared dead by the doctors.

The six died, police said, due to suffocation after inhaling the thick smoke.

The fire broke out on the 5th floor of the Swapnalok Complex at 7.30 pm due to a short circuit.

More than 13 tenders were rushed to the spot to extinguish the blaze as huge flames leapt out from the floors of the eight-storey building, officials said.

At least 13 people were trapped inside, of which 7 were rescued safely while the other 6 succumbed due to thick smoke.

The rescued people were rushed to the hospital here.

Telangana Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav visited the spot.

The fire has been brought under control, police added.

The deceased were identified as Pramila, Venala, Shravani , Triveni, Siva and Prasanth.

Union Minister G Kishan Reddy in a tweet today said ‘Deeply anguished by the loss of lives of 6 people in the fire accident at Swapnalok Complex in Secunderabad.

My condolences to the bereaved families & prayers for the early recovery of those injured,’ he added.
