CBI gets three-day custody of TMC leader Ashish Pandey in RGK alleged financial irregularities case

Kolkata, Oct 4 : Arrested RG Kar hospital’s doctor and TMC leader Ashish Pandey was produced before a special court in the city on Friday by the CBI, which claimed the accused was one of the masterminds in the threat culture in the medical fraternity by the patronage of former RGK principal Sandip Ghosh, official sources said.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday evening arrested Pandey, TMC’s medical wing union president at RGK, in connection with alleged financial irregularities at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in the city.
The CBI told court that Pandey, who was not eligible to be a House Staff in 2023/2024 but was made so with the patronage of Ghosh, who is also arrested in two cases of RGK financial scam as well as accused of having link in the murder of a 31-year-old lady student on August 9.
The CBI, probing both the cases following the Calcutta high court orders, also told the court that Pandey used to threat the junior doctors and medical students, even as the senior doctors and extorted money from the threat culture on the behest of Sandip Ghosh.
Ashish Pandey has been accused of assisting Dr. Sandip Kumar Ghosh, the former principal of the medical college.The CBI also seized Pandey’s mobile phone, which provided many clues in the crimes, sources added.
The CBI, which sought Pandey’s 4-day custody, got three days custody and to be produced again on Monday, sources said.
On September 2, former principal RGK Sandip Ghosh, along with three others, was arrested by the CBI in the graft case. The CBI also arrested Ghosh and Tala Police station OC Abhijit Mondal for alleged tampering with murder scene evidence as well as suppressing the fact.
The others arrested included vendors Biplav Singha (52) and Sumon Hazra (46), as well as Afsar Ali Khan, who provided additional security to Ghosh.
A separate report said both Ghosh and Tala Police station OC Abhijit Mondal would be produced before a court later today.
