Elections to upper house of Belarusian parliament to be held on Thursday

Minsk, Apr 4 : Elections of lawmakers to the upper house of the Belarusian parliament will be held in all regions of the republic on Thursday, the country’s Central Election Commission (CEC) said in a statement.

“On April 4, elections of members of the eighth Council of the Republic of the National Assembly [upper house of parliament] will be held in all regions and Minsk,” the CEC said.

The Council of the Republic is a chamber of territorial representation. Eight members of the upper house of parliament are elected from each region and Minsk by secret ballot by base-level local councils of deputies. Eight members can be appointed by the president.
