Mamata congratulates Achinta Sheuli from Bengal on winning third gold medal at CWG

Kolkata, August 1 : Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday extended her heartfelt congratulation to Achinta Sheuli from West Bengal on winning the third gold medal at CWG,
2022.

Taking to her twitter, Banerjee said, “Truly a proud moment for all of us as the young

AchintaSheuli from West Bengal wins the third gold medal at CWG, 2022.”

“Heartfelt congratulations to him. Your success will serve as an inspiration to countless others
in the country,” the chief minister said.

“All the best for your future endeavours!” she added.

India won its third gold in weightlifting with Achinta Sheuli winning in Men’s 73kg finals. He lifted
a total of 313 kg.

Growing up in Deulpur village in Howrah district, Sheuli first broke the Games record twice in the Snatch round, lifting 140kg and 143kg. He then lifted 166kg and 170kg in the clean and jerk round
to register a Games record for the overall weight.

Favourite to win the event, debutant Sheuli heaved 313kg (143kg 170kg) to grab the gold at NEC
Hall on Sunday.

With the gold from Sheuli, the Indian weightlifting contingent has bagged its sixth medal of the Games. Earlier in the day, 19-year-old Jeremy Lalrinnunga won the gold medal in the men’s 67kg category.
