Kolkata, March 22 : West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday heartily greeted all brothers and sisters of Maharashtra on the happy occasion of Gudi Padwa.

“Heartiest greetings to all my brothers and sisters of Maharashtra on the happy occasion of

Gudi Padwa,” Banerjee posted on her social networking page.

Gudi Padwa is observed as Marathi New year and celebrated with enthusiasm in Maharashtra.

On this day, people wake up early in the morning, clean their homes, take a bath and decorate the front gate of their homes with beautiful rangoli designs.

According to Luni-Solar– the position of the Moon and the position of the Sun divide the year into months and days calendar it is Marathi New Year.

Gudi Padwa is a combination of two words Gudi which means flag and padwa or padava or padavo comes from the Sanskrit word ‘pratipada’ which refers to the first day of the Lunar fortnight.
