Monsoon Session: Saryu Rai says will resign from house if answers of govt are true

Ranchi, Aug 2 : During the ongoing Monsoon Session of the Jharkhand Assembly independent MLA Saryu Rai in reply to a short notice question challenged the government’s answer saying that if the answer is correct he will resign from the membership of the assembly the very next day.
He claimed that false reports have been given by the officials in the House that Harmu and Swarnrekha rivers have become pollution free and if the sewerage drainage system would have been working he would resign from the House tomorrow itself.
Earlier, Minister-in-Charge Champai Soren, while replying on behalf of the government, said that STPs of sewerage treatment plants have been set up at 8 places for treatment of urban effluents on the Harmu river, out of which 7 are in operation and 1 is under construction.
To check urban pollution of rivers and to contain urban pollutants, 14 STPs are functioning in the state at Ranchi, Sahebganj, Rajmahal, Jamshedpur, Bokaro and Dhanbad.
A total STP of 104 MLD capacity is under construction under the state, for this STP of 427 MLD capacity is proposed.
He also informed that Jharkhand State Pollution Control Board conducts water quality checks of Damodar, Swarnrekha, Harmu and other rivers at 56 points under the National Water Monitoring Program.
Every month’s report is uploaded on the portal of CPCB. To check urban pollution of rivers and to control urban pollutants, 16 STPs are functioning in the state at Ranchi, Sahebganj, Rajmahal, Jamshedpur, Bokaro and Dhanbad.
A total STP of 104 MLD capacity is under construction under the state. Apart from this, STP of 427 MLD capacity is proposed.
He said that monthly progress report for every month is sent to Central Pollution Control Board.
When the MLA expressed his dissatisfaction with this reply of the government, the Speaker of the Assembly directed him to inspect the area along with the minister-in-charge and inform him about the situation.
