New Delhi, July 26 : The proceedings in Rajya Sabha began on a stormy note on Tuesday as the House witnessed repeated adjournments in the pre lunch session with Opposition lawmakers continuing to raise slogans on price rise, GST hike and hooch tragedy in Gujarat.

The House was adjourned by Chairman M. Venkaiah Naidu till noon as it assembled for the day.

Naidu adjourned the House even before the Opposition protests could gather momentum.

Aam Aadmi Party MP Sanjay Singh gave Suspension of Business notice under Rule 267 to discuss hike in GST rates.

CPI MP Binoy Viswam also gave a similar Suspension of Business notice to discuss GST rate hike and inflation.

The notices under the said rule were not been admitted by the Chair.

Later, Deputy Chairman Harivansh tried to run the Question Hour but had to adjourn the House for 15 minutes amid uproar by Opposition.

The deputy chair warned Opposition not to display placards citing rules and procedures of the House.

“It is against the norms, please don’t compel the Chair to use Rule 256. Please don’t force me to name you under Rule 256,” he said.

The proceedings resumed later amid uproar and sloganeering by Opposition MPs against the Prime Minister.
