Voting underway on 4 LS seats in Jharkhand

Ranchi, May 13 : Voting began peacefully on Monday in Singhbhum, Khunti, Palamu, and Lohardaga Lok Sabha constituencies of Jharkhand in the fourth phase of Lok Sabha elections when 45 candidates are in fray.

State Chief Electoral Officer K. Ravi Kumar said in all the four constituencies, polling will take place from 7 am to 5 pm when a total of 64,58,036 voters will cast their votes. He said that extensive security measures are in place.

All polling stations will be monitored with two 4D cameras inside and outside. Webcasting of all these cameras is being done at the District Election Officer level, Headquarters level, and Election Commission of India level.

A total of 30,380 polling personnel have been deployed for polling. There are 32,38,955 male, 32,19,039 female, and 42 transgender voters.

The maximum number of candidates is 15 in Lohardaga, and the least seven is in Khunti. Among them, 36 are men and 9 are women. There are a total of 7,595 booths, of which 639 are in urban areas and 6,956 in rural.

The entire command of 519 booths is in the hands of women, while the responsibility of 14 booths is for the disabled, and seven booths are for youth.

An air ambulance has also been arranged to deal with any emergency. It has been kept ready at Jamshedpur Airport.

Key candidates whose fates will be sealed in the EVM on Monday from these four seats include Union Agriculture Minister Arjun Munda from Khunti, besides Kalicharan Munda of Congress, Geeta Koda of the BJP from Singhbhum, Joba Manjhi of JMM, Sameer Oraon of the BJP from Lohardaga, and Sukhdev of Congress. alongside Bhagat and independent Chambal Linda, BJP’s BD Ram from Palamu, and RJD’s Mamta Bhuiya.
